Press Release May 17, 2016
LPA To Build New Data Warehouse for TWEC
Trans World Entertainment Corporation (TWEC) is a leading specialty retailer for a variety of entertainment products, including video, music, electronics, and video games. Founded in 1972 by Robert J. Higgins, they opened their first retail store in 1973 and today operate retail stores in the United States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. It mainly operates under the names Suncoast and F.Y.E. (For Your Entertainment), and in 1986 became a publicly traded company.
TWEC was using dated Oracle technology for its Enterprise Data Warehouse, which was running out of support by the vendor. As a result, they experienced many data issues impacting their business, including poor response time and job performance, lack of compatibility with other systems and no ability to extend the current solution.
LPA initially consulted with TWEC to assess their analytics capability and built them a full analytics roadmap. Its experience with retail analytics helped TWEC choose LPA as a trusted partner for this initiative.
By focusing on the benefits of a pure IBM-based solution, LPA convinced TWEC that moving forward with an IBM portfolio was the best analytics solution for them. The new data warehouse is being built using IBM Netezza and Information Server, with ETL converted to IBM Information Server Jobs. LPA will also upgrade TWEC to the latest version of Cognos Analytics and train end users on how best to leverage the new analytics environment.
LPA is a Premier IBM Business Partner focused on data-driven strategies enabling our customers become more competitive. We envision and implement innovative solutions for clients that add value to their business by leveraging the power of analytics.
